Remembering Sandy 10 Years On
by Martin Reddy
March 2018 saw the 10-year anniversary of Sandy's passing. To mark this event, a group of Sandy's friends came together in Kilmartin over the weekend of 10/11 March, 2018. We gathered at the Kilmartin Hotel, across the road from the church where Sandy was laid to rest a decade earlier.
We all have families and busy lives these days, but each of us wanted to make sure that we took the time to pause and remember Sandy on the occasion of this anniversary. Sandy always radiated warmth and compassion, and he had an infectious joy for life that made it easy to like being around him. We wanted to make sure that we keep that memory alive; that we keep Sandy's spirit alive.
So we all met to share a dram (or two), eat good food together, and recall lots of stories about Sandy; as well as catch up with each other and learn how our own lives have changed over the intervening years. It was particularly remarkable how all of us were much thinner and better looking than we were 10 years ago!
The photo below shows, from left to right: Grant, Keith, Nicky, Richard, Dave, Rab, Martin, Ian, Alasdair, and Duncan. Several other friends wanted to be there as well but were unfortunately unable to make that weekend. However, they were all with us in spirit as we raised a glass of whisky to Sandy's memory.
Thanks also to Richard at the Kilmartin Hotel — another childhood friend of Sandy and Duncan's — for all his hospitality over the weekend.
You are still remembered, Sandy.
