I went to University with Sandy. We didn't do the same course as he was doing TBS - "Tea And Biscuits Society" or "Technology and Business Studies", but we shared some of the same subjects in Computer Science and Management Science. I was also in Baird Hall for my first two years while Sandy was there. I remember Sandy as a very bouncy, happy, helpful, optimistic and kind person with a good sense of humour. We were in a few group projects together. I think he came up with the name for one of our group project's in management science as "Mr.Bean Industries Limited" !
He and Martin's room door (701) in Baird Hall, was always open on a Friday or Saturday night to watch videos or play racing games. It was the technology centre of Baird Hall as both Martin and he had their Amigas and vcr. In particular I remember a group of us watching "Highlander" and playing racing car games to try and stay up for the whole night. They were very easy going hosts considering they didn't get sleep until people left. I remember Sandy enjoyed a whisky or two !
In fact myself, Sandy and Iain McClure had a joint 21st on Sandy's birthday at the Cotton Club, Glasgow in 1993 as all our birthdays were close together in April. We called it "KISS" as Katy, Iain and Sandy. (we couldn't think of anything for the other 'S' and "KISS" was about as close a word as we could find to our names !) Sandy organised the tickets and the venue.
I stayed in contact with Sandy via phone calls a few times a year and at Christmas, but unfortunately, we lost touch a few years after university. We'd swap tales of working life and we would talk about friends we had in common from university. The last thing I remember him talking about was having met a nice girl called Fleur who later he married !
I have very happy memories of my time as a student at Strathclyde and of Sandy there. He was one of very many good friends I met there. It's a loss he is gone, but I hope that this memory along with the others will be of some comfort.
